Malawi’s National Product Magazine opens voting for 2025 Year-End Awards

LILONGWE–( MaraviPost)-The country’s leading business and entrepreneurship publication, National Product Magazine (NPM), has announced the commencement of voting for its 2025 Year-End Awards and celebration of its 120th edition.

Voting opens tonight, October 20, and will run until early November 2025.

This year’s awards ceremony is being held under the theme, “Where Innovation Meets Distinction: Celebrating Excellence in Products and Services Across Industries.”

Speaking in an interview on Monday, NPM Executive Director Arthur Chinyamula said the awards aim to recognize and celebrate excellence by honoring outstanding products, services, suppliers, and business leaders across all industries.

“We have about 40 awards up for grabs,” said Chinyamula. “The voting process starts tonight and will run for the next two weeks.”

Chinyamula added that this year’s awards will be unique, as they will also include special categories for women entrepreneurs and media professionals.

He further revealed that the NPM Year-End Gala Awards will take place on December 14, 2025, at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

“We have scheduled the nominations early to allow participants to showcase their products and services, make business presentations, and adequately prepare. This year’s event will also include participation from companies and individuals across the SADC region, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique,” he explained.

Over the years, National Product Magazine has received widespread praise for its role in promoting local manufacturers and supporting business growth through its platforms and recognition programs.

Chithyola appeals for affordable financing towards SMEs growth: As NPM wins SADC Companies, Govt confidence

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda has emphasized the need for financial lending institutions including banks to provide affordable financing to enable people to do investment and make profits.

Chithyola Banda made an appeal at this year’s National Product Magazine (NPM) mid-year awards on Saturday night at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

He called upon macro-financing institutions and banks to come up with teller made financial products that can enable people to venture into agri-business, investment so that the country can increase production as well as value addition.

“But I also talked much about quality, we cannot produce focusing on quantity alone but we also need to focus on quality and that also nowadays focuses on value addition, for one to expand export base we need to export these products and that requires some kind of financing that is the reason why I made that call,” he said.

NPM Chief Executive Officer Steven Chinyamula said the idea behind this event was to promote Malawi for international market as Malawi is struggling with forex while it has the through production from locally available materials and export hence the concept for this year that can help the business sector to propel.

“Our job is provide adequate information, you know every organization that has got know information doesn’t last long, so our role is to provide that to relevant sectors, one of them is financing because these industries they rely upon financing in several projects.

“You remember agriculture sector if it has to be financed well by these banks and any other financial lending institution it means farmers will be equipped, encouraged, motivated and produce more that can make Malawi’s forex,” he said.

Themed: “Exporting Excellence: the role of agriculture, transport and manufacturing in strengthening Malawi’s Foreign Exchange,” NPM Mid-Year Awards Gala and 115 edition launch recognized top innovators, manufacturers, and sector players in celebrating local products.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)–Excitement is building up and reaching fever pitch as companies across Malawi and the SADC region gear up for the much-awaited National Product Magazine (NPM) Mid-Year Awards Gala and the magazine’s 115th edition, scheduled for June 21, 2025, at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

With just five days to go, excitement is mounting among business leaders, government agencies, and ministries that are eager to showcase their innovations and align with Malawi’s Vision 2063—with particular focus on agriculture, transport, manufacturing, and finance.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, NPM Founder and Managing Director Arthur Chinyamula confirmed that preparations are complete and the event promises to be a landmark celebration of business excellence.

“This isn’t just another event—it’s the NPM Mid-Year Awards Gala. Get ready for an evening of excellence, celebration, and innovation,” said an enthusiastic Chinyamula.

“Companies should come prepared to impress. The event will feature business presentations, product showcases, red carpet interviews, and several engaging activities throughout the evening.”

Chinyamula revealed that over 20 companies from across the SADC region have confirmed participation, alongside numerous Malawian enterprises and government institutions, including the Ministries of Agriculture, Transport, Trade, and Finance.

Under the theme:

“Connecting Industries, Fueling Exports: Enhancing Malawi’s Forex Reserves through Agriculture, Manufacturing, and Transport,”
the gala aims to recognize and celebrate exceptional achievements in sectors vital to Malawi’s economic growth.

More than 80 companies have been nominated for various awards, with 70% hailing from Malawi and 30% from SADC member states such as Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, and others.

The evening will also offer an entertainment extravaganza headlined by Malawian music icon Lulu, guaranteeing a night of glamour, networking, and celebration.

Adding flair to the event is the “Best Dressed of the Night” competition, encouraging attendees to “dress to impress.”

NEEF voted as 2024 NPM’s Best financial lending institution

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s state-owned National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) has been voted as the best financial lending institution of the year in 2024 National Product Magazine (NPM)’s gala awards.

The awards come as Ministry of Agriculture is committed to supporting commercial-oriented households through various initiatives including Farm Input Loans NEEF in 2024/25 farming season.

During the awards which Trade and Industry Minister Sosten Gwengwe graced for 40 awards in the capital Lilongwe, NEEF emerged the best from three financial institutions which were nominated.

Reacting to the award, NEEF Chief Executive Officer Humphreys Mdyetseni said was honoured for recognition of the institution’s effort to bail out Malawians from financial challenges.

Mdyetseni therefore urged the general public to make use of the funds by thinking big with NEEF loans by setting up substantial enterprises

Salima Sugar shines at NPM gala with two Awards

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s state-owned sugar producer, Salima Sugar Limited, a subsidiary of Greenbelt Authority on Friday night, December 6, 2024 scooped two awards in National Product Magazine (NPM) Gala.

During the awards which Trade and Industry Minister Sosten Gwengwe graced for 40 awards, Salima Sugar won “The best Sugar Producer of the Year”.

Not only but also Salima Sugar Company Executive Secretary and Chair Webster Kossam was voted as “Most improved Ceo in Manufacturing sector of The Year”.

In his excitement, Kosamu desriced the award as a motivation considering the efforts that the company has demonstrated the time that the country was hit with sugar crisis.

According to Kossam, the company produced 21,000 metric tons from 18, 000 metric (previous company regime) while hoping reach 30 metric tons when full operation scale is done.

He therefore assured the nation the the company will continue working on different reforms to ensure that salima become the biggest sugar producer in Malawi and SADC Region.

Kosamu therefore also called upon more investors from both government and the public sector to utilise the land that has been idle therefore realizing more exports.

“The awards have motivated us greatly that will work hard for expansion of sugar cultivation for the idle 4,000 hectors of land.

“We want more partners in this sugar venture that we produce more for export as forex scarcity”, appeals Kossam.

National Product Magazine gets Chakwera’s nod on local manufacturing promotion

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s leadership has recognised National Product Magazine (NPM) for role is helping local manufacturers to sell theirs products beyond Malawi while generating much needed forex.

Trade and Industry Minister Sosten Gwengwe told NPM 2024 Year awards gala on Friday evening, November 6, in the capital Lilongwe that the magazine has given local manufacturers a platform to unlock trade barriers in SADC Region.

Minister Gwengwe disclosed that President Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership recognises the role the magazines is playing in promoting local products beyond Malawi.

“NPM has attracted President Chakwera’s attention that his leadership will be part of the magazine’s production. This is the reason he keeps allowing me to grace NPM awards and editions’ launch.

“This the platform manufacturers need to embrace in unlocking trade barriers. We want Malawian products get market in the entire SADC Region”, urges Gwengwe.

The minister therefore disclosed that with support from the World Bank, the government will, from March next year, start disbursing matching grants worth K7 billion to medium- and large-scale businesses.

Gwengwe said the initiative aims at bailing out the manufacturing companies out of the financial challenges to promote production and value addition in the industrialisation agenda.

He said industrial growth and diversification are crucial for the country to generate more forex.

The minister added moving away from raw exports will ensure the creation of jobs for many Malawians, thereby growing the country’s economy.
