Bullets denied training access: Chitipa United match preparation hit

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have been denied access to Chitipa Stadium for their training sessions ahead of their crucial TNM Super League match against Chitipa United this Saturday.

According to Bullets CEO Alfred Chigoga, the team had made prior arrangements with Chitipa District Council to use the stadium for training, but upon arrival on Tuesday, they were turned away.

Chigoga attributed the development to alleged interference from Chitipa United officials, who reportedly objected to Bullets training at the stadium.

He lamented the lack of an alternative training ground in the district, which has left the team in a difficult situation as they prepare for the big match.

However, Chitipa United chairperson Mika Yobe has distanced his club from the matter, stressing that the facility is under the jurisdiction of the district council. “We have no say in the matter,” Yobe said, adding that the decision to deny Bullets access to the stadium rests with the council.

Chitipa District Council director of planning and development Philemon Maseko explained that initial permission was given to Bullets without considering the host team’s concerns, which later led to the reversal.

“We gave them permission without consulting Chitipa United, and that was an oversight on our part,” Maseko said.

The development has sparked controversy, with Bullets vice general secretary Donnex Chilongo weighing in on the matter.

Chilongo reminded clubs that visiting teams are entitled to a one-hour training session on match eve, as per the league regulations.

“We will look into the matter and ensure that our teams are accorded the necessary facilities to prepare for matches,” Chilongo said.

The dispute highlights the challenges that teams face when it comes to accessing training facilities, particularly in smaller towns where options are limited.

For Bullets, the lack of access to Chitipa Stadium has added an extra layer of complexity to their preparations for the match.

The team faces a tough challenge against Chitipa United on Saturday, followed by a midweek fixture against Songwe Border FC in Karonga.

As the situation stands, Bullets will have to find alternative ways to prepare for the match, possibly relying on other training grounds or adjusting their training schedule.

The team’s coaching staff will need to think outside the box to ensure that the players are adequately prepared for the challenges ahead.

In the midst of these logistical challenges, Bullets will hope that their experience and class will see them through against Chitipa United.

The match promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams looking to make a statement in the TNM Super League.

The Sulom vice general secretary’s comments suggest that the league body may need to step in to resolve the issue and ensure that teams are accorded the necessary facilities to prepare for matches.

As the league progresses, it is essential that teams have access to suitable training grounds to prepare for their fixtures.

KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Chitipa United have leapfrogged FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to climb to the summit of the league standings after earning a 1-0 win over Ekwendeni Hammers on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

Ramadhan Ntafu’s lone strike from the penalty spot in the 37th minute was enough to see the home side overcome a spirited Hammers at the Karonga Stadium.

The win meant that Chitipa have amassed 36 points from 19 league matches, a point clear of defending champions Bullets who have played two games fewer.

While Ekwendeni who have lost three league encounters in a row including last weekend’s thumping to Karonga United 4-1 at the same venue, remain in sixth place with 25 points to their name from 19 matches.

The match played in front of a sizable crowd at the Karonga Stadium, saw the home side just do enough to edge out their opponent’s in an encounter that was characterized by a lack of clear goal-scoring opportunities.

The only talking moment of the game came in the 37th minute when Ntafu calmly rowed his penalty-kick in the back of the net after the visitor’s skipper Blessings Singini was judged to have brought down Chitipa’s Ken Mulenga.

Despite showing more promise in the second half by dominating the possession the away side struggled to create any chances of note as the home side clanged on to the vital three points.

In a post-match interview Ekwendeni Hammers assistant coach Lackson Nyoni, said his side deserved more from the game.

“There wasn’t match between the two teams, I thought we played well and should have got at least a draw from this game,” he said.

However Chitipa United coach MacDonald Mtetemera, hailed his charges tactical discipline in earning the three points.

“I am delighted with the win, the boys put on a great tactical performance to battle through and collect the maximum three points,” said an ecstatic Mtetemera.

By Lusekero Mhango

KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Lorenzo Ghedo’s first-half goal proved decisive as inform Chitipa United collected another three points after downing Moyale Barracks Fc 1-0 in a TNM Super League match played on Saturday.

The Midfielder who capitalized on a communication breakdown among the visitors’ defense scored the lone strike in the 30th minute to ensure the home side maintained their 100% home record at the Karonga Stadium with their 8th successive scalp.

Moyale who should count themselves unfortunate for not picking up all three points, were the better team on the day but a lack of composure in front of goal by their reliable marksmen of Gastin Simkonda and Rafael Phiri proved costly in their downfall.

With the win, Chitipa United has temporarily climbed to second on the league standings level on points with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on 29 points having played a game more than the reigning champions and two games more than third-place Silver Strikers who have 28 points.

Meanwhile, the Mzuzu-based Moyale have ended their first round on 17 points from 15 matches that they have played which sees them languishing in ninth in the elite league.

In a post-match interview, Chitipa United coach Macdonald Mtetemera expressed delight in coming away from the tough encounter with all three points.

“I thought our attitude and fighting spirit was once again top class from the boys hence the win was well deserved,” he said.

However, his counterpart Nicholas Mhango lamented his charges’ poor finishing which contributed to the loss.

“This was the best performance of the season from the lads and we should have picked up the victory but we failed to capitalize on our chances and they did with the single opportunity that they had,” a frustrated Mhango explained.

Nyambose makes a mark at Chitipa United

By Lusekero Mhango

KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-When the witty and experienced coach Alex Ngwira dumped Super League side Chitipa United back in February over unpaid arrears, it all looked doom and bleak for the side.

Rooted at the foot of the 16 team member league with only 4 points to their name after 10 matches and bereft with no ideas and confidence, it all looked like Chitipa were destined for relegation after only two years in the elite league.

As the TNM Super League was forced to go on a break due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, strangely the break looked to be a blessing in disguise for the lions of Fort-hill as they regrouped and took on board Christopher Nyambose to spear head their resurrection.

Nyambose who successfully led Karonga United from safety in 2018 was given one task that is to transform the fortunes and bring smiles upon the players and fans alike.

As the tactician points out from day one his message to his charges was that the team will survive in the TNM Super League.

“Since Chitipa was in the relegation zone, we could not have said that we came in to make the team title contenders. I had only one task that was to make the side competitive and get them out of the trap and propel it to the position it truly deserves,” he says.

Since taking over back in March Chitipa have taken 21 points from 15 matches as a result the side has jumped from the foot of the table up to 13th a position which seemed imaginative back in February.

One of the soccer lovers in Karonga Emmanuel Moyo, says he is not surprised with the impact Nyambose has made to Chitipa United.

“Nyambose has been around for a while and he knows this league well hence we are not surprised with the quick impact he has made upon Chitipa who I believe will stay up in the super league.” He explains.

Never the less soccer pundit Rudoviko Nyirenda, has warned the lions of fort hill not to relax as the job to escape relegation is far from being over despite the upturn of form.

“In football you can’t take things for granted as things can and do change quickly. One bad performance or defeat can lead to another spiral of bad results.” He says.

Never the less as for the man of the moment Christopher Nyambose, says he has no doubt that his charges will escape relegation and preserve their top flight status.

“We were written off by many people including our own fans but in a short period of time we have silenced our critics and as a coach I could not be more proud of the players’ efforts and hard work to turn around the bad form we had at the beginning of the season.” Says a buoyant Nyambose.

Currently Chitipa United sit 13th on the log table on 25 points from 24 matches 6 point clear of 14th place side Tigers FC in the race for survival in the elite TNM Super League.

Chitipa United sink Blue Eagles in TNM Super League

By Lusekero Mhango

KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Chitipa United coach Christopher Nyambose has hailed his side’s tactical discipline and spirit shown in overcoming stubborn Blue Eagles FC 1-0 in a TNM Super League encounter played at the Karonga Stadium on Saturday.

The match which was characterized by few goal-scoring chances saw Peter Mughogho settle the tight encounter from the penalty spot 10 minutes before half time.

The visitors who had the likes of Micium Mhone and the talented Gaddie Chirwa and Patrick Phiri in their side were frustrated by a well-organized home side who reduced the away side to speculative efforts outside the box.

The match which was played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions saw the 13th place side Chitipa show no nerves as they battled hard in picking up three vital points in their battle for survival.

Speaking in a post-match interview Chitipa United coach Christopher Nyambose, expressed delight in his side’s fighting spirit in going for the three points.

“Before the match our objective was to pick up all the three points with a win and we have achieved that and we deserved it with our attitude and fighting spirit that we showed in going all out for the victory,” he said.

He added, the victory has given them more confidence heading into the upcoming fixtures considering that teams above them were also picking up wins in the past weeks.

“But to see my players doing this and coping under pressure and have the humility to fight for every ball while also keeping their shape off the ball was what pleased me the most as a coach,” Nyambose marbled.

However under fire Blue Eagles Tactician Gerard Phiri Senior, conceded his charges were not at their best in the encounter.

“We did not play well today we have to be honest to ourselves hence we did not deserve to pick up anything from the encounter today,” said a frustrated Phiri.

With the win Chitipa United have moved six points clear of the relegation zone on 25 points to their name from 24 matches while Blue Eagles stay in 12th on 26 points from 22 games respectively.

KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Chitipa united produced a stunning performance to hand an out of sorts silver strikers a 1-0 defeat in the TNM Super League match played on Saturday.

Emmanuel Muyira proved the match winner as his second half strike was enough to hand the home side a vital three points while also denting Silver’s title push.

The match played in front of a small but vocal crowd at the Karonga stadium saw the hosts begin the match strongly by pinning the visitors in their own half.

However despite the dominant display clear goal scoring chances were hard to come by for the home side with gule mwaisope having the only chance of note.

The Lilongwe based giants struggled for rhythm in a quiet first half display.

In the second half the visitors began it more strongly by pressing from the front.

Despite this Chitipa continued to look more threatening on the counter.

In the 66th minute the hosts were awarded a penalty after silver keeper Brighton Munthali Brought down the impressive Matthews Sibale.

Emmanuel muyira stepped up and scored from the rebound after munthali saved his first attempt.

Despite having the league top goal scorer Maxwell Gasten the visitors continued to fashion nothing in opportunities as Chitipa hanged on without any alarm.

Speaking in a post match interview silver strikers coach Daniel Kabwe bemoaned the officiation of the match.

“We didn’t play well but the penalty which our opponents got was not a penalty, everyone saw that and that decision cost us at least a point,” he lamented.

However his counterpart Christopher Nyambose hailed his side’s tactical discipline displayed in the match.

“I thought my players really carried out our tactical plan, silver offered nothing and that was down to our strong display and defensive qualities.” A delighted Nyambose said.

With the win chitipa united have moved clear of the chasing pack cementing their position in 13th with 22 points to their name from 21 matches while the defeat dented silver strikers title aspirations as they have fallen 5 points behind league leaders Nyasa Big Bullets as they have 40 points from 20 matches.

Civil Stuns Chitipa with late win in TNM Super League

By Lusekero Mhango

KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Civil Service United’s quest to collect six maximum points in their two assignments in Karonga has got off to a perfect start after overcoming Chitipa United 2-1 in a TNM Super League matched on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Goals from Muhamad Sulumba and a 90th minute header from Blessings Tembo were enough to ensure the collection of all the three points.

Muhamad Byson had earlier equalized for the hosts who will count themselves unfortunate to at least not to have picked up a point in the counter that they dominated for a majority of the 90 minutes.

The match played in front of a sizable crowd at the Karonga Stadium saw the visitors fly out from their blocks by taking an early lead through a cool taken finish by Sulumba after a flowing team move in the 6th minute leaving the home side’s goalkeeper Mossa Matawale rooted to his spot.

However, Chitipa who were searching for a first league win of the season never let the early setback of conceding the opener dwell their confidence as they took control of the game.

In the 22nd minute of the match the hosts pressure finally was rewarded as an excellent team move was finished off by an impressive Byson with a ruthless finish past a helpless Charles Swim.

In the second half the home side continued to pile on the pressure on the visitors however a mixture of a lack of composure and wastefulness in front of goal got the better of them as chance after chance went begging.

In the 90th minute of the encounter Chitipa’s profligacy in front of goal was ruthlessly punished by the Lilongwe based giants as Blessings Tembo pounced from a corner to nod in a late winner to the shock belief of the partisan home faithful.

Speaking in a post-match interview Chitipa United’s assistant coach Nathaniel Mkamanga, bemoaned his charges profligacy in front of goal contributing it to the defeat.

“We have no one to blame for this loss apart from ourselves as we missed a lot of chances to win the game and if you do not take your chances at this level you can be punished and that is what happened to us today,” said a frustrated Mkamanga.

Never the less his counterpart Elia Kananji, hailed his boys for sticking to the game plan to emerge victors in a tough encounter.

“Of course we were not at our fluent best but we did not have to be as our experience got us through over the line despite the pressure on our goal,” he explained.

With the win Civil have climbed up to third on the log table with 11 points from 5 matches while Chitipa remain rooted at the foot of the table with a single point to their name from 6 games.
