Nankhumwa accuses Chakwera’s Tonse of duping farmers through AIP

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Leader of Opposition, Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government to repay back farmers money amounting to MK30,000 by January 27, 2023 which they collected in Affordable Input Program (AIP).

Nankhumwa told Maravipost on Friday in an interview that Chakwera Tonse government should pay back the money that has been collected from the farmers without giving them fertilizer.

The opposition leader disclosed that many households do not have enough food for survival arguing that its sad to hear that government is demanding MK30,000 from poor farmers and never give them the required commodity.

Nankhumwa dares Chakwera on AIP

Nankhumwa observes, “This is a first time in history of fertilizer subsidy where government collects money from poor people without giving them commodity.

“For a long time we have been told that government is working to purge out middlemen from the AIP why is the same government now behaving like the same middlemen it wanted to remove, government should just come in an Open and say AIP has clashed”.

He noted further, “It is very sad that government terminate FISP without proper planning for the AIP as the number of beneficiaries keeps on decreasing”.

AIP is facing a lot of challenges this year as every Member of Parliament is suppose to get transportation for the inputs to his or her constituency using their pockets.

Chilima and Joyce Banda in Zomba for Tonse Alliance

ZOMBA-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President and Tonse alliance runningmate in the forthcoming fresh presidential election Dr. Saulos Chilima on Saturday, June 6, 2020 urged supporters to be patient and not payback on what Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democrat Front (UDF) intimidation during campaign.

Chilima instead told supporters to vote against them on the polling day.

Addressing a Tonse alliance campaign rally at Gymkhana ground in Zomba, the UTM leader assured Malawians that the alliance is the God’s making.

Malawians never retaliate the violence pounced by the DPP/UDF leaders but keep their anger and avenge on June 23, 2020 by voting for Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is representing Tonse Alliance.

Chilima expressed with the ugly scenes of political violence, voiced out many promises which have been gathered in the blueprint of the Tonse alliance.

The VP however reminded Malawians that Peter Mutharika is not a law abiding person referring to 2012 incident.

“Mutharika wanted to block Joyce Banda from ascending to the presidency after the death of president Bingu Wa Mutharika, 2014 when he used the judges to become the head of state, the same judges he’s castigating today for ruling against him in the presidential case.

“Mutharika is speaking even after Supreme and High courts’ judgement going against him. This is unaccepted”, says Chilima.

Chilima with boldness and passionate said even if it means dying, Tonse alliance leaders are ready to sacrifice their own lives for the sake of the nation.

Making her remarks, the former head of state Dr. Joyce Banda assured the gathering that Dr. Chakwera is not taking Chilima as his runningmate but his partner in taking Malawians to the promised Land.

Dr. Banda appealed Chakwera-Chilima leadership to consider buying the idle land/farms in Zomba and share it to the locals.

She also requested the coming government of Tonse to consider descent houses for the Malawi Defence Force and Malawi Police Service staff.

Chilima takes Tonse alliance to Salima, Dowa

SALIMA-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima who is also running mate to Dr. Lazarus Lazarus Chakwera in the Tonse Alliance has assured people the MK4,495 new fertilizer price will be announced on day one of new presidency.

Speaking when he launched his trade mark Imbizos for Friday starting with Mvera in Dowa ending with Kaphatenga in Salima, Chilima said the alliance partners will implement this as soon as possible as one way of dealing with food security.

“Believe us that this will be done. In fact Dr. Chakwera is committed on this and will announce the new price in his acceptance speech. This will not take three days or a week. This is instant. We have to deal with food security once and for all,” said Chilima. 

Throughout his stops, just like on Thursday when he toured of Nkhotakota, Chilima kept on lifting a 50 kg bag of fertiliser to assure people that the MK4,495 price is for a 50Kg bag contrary to what opponents are saying.

“If they come here and tell you that the figure I am mentioning is for a 20 kg, please tell them in the face that I showed you a 50 Kg bag. For them, they can not slash the prices because it will mean they will minimize their sources of theft,” said Chilima.

Speaking earlier in most of the venues, MCP Youth Director Richard Chimwendo Banda assured the people that Dr. Chakwera and Dr. Chilima is the only pair geared to uplift people’s lives and develop Malawi.

“Let us do our part for voting for them as President and running mate. We will put in mechanisms to ensure that everyone goes to vote on the polling day,” he said.

Chilima started the weekend campaign trail on Thursday with 9 stops and by Saturday is expected to conduct 24 Whistle stops and one main rally in just 72 hours.
