Teveta warns public to be aware of bogus individuals soliciting cash payments for training

2 Min Read

The country’s Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) has issued a warning to spurious individuals posing as its officials who are soliciting cash from the public as payment for training.   Teveta says the institution will not spare anyone caught doing this and they will be reported to the authorities for prosecution to the full extent of the law.

The warning comes after some bogus individuals in Mzuzu have been writing letters to unsuspecting people advising them that they have been selected for Teveta training and that they must therefore deposit training fees in a specified personal account.

In an exclusive interview with The Maravi Post on Monday, October 12, Lewis Msasa, Teveta’s Head of Corporate Affairs noted with concern over the misconduct saying if such dishonesty people are caught, the law will take its full course.

Msasa assured the general public that his institution has put all appropriate measures to contain the malpractice as the matter has also been reportedly to all police stations across the nation.

“Indeed, some misguided individuals are posing as Teveta officials particularly in Mzuzu by advising some people that have been selected to various colleges hence the need to deposit some money for tuition into the fake bank account ( in one of the banks in the city) as a
payment for the training.

“Fortunately, none has deposited the cash into such counterfeit bank account as we were alerted on the matter. Currently, such individuals are in the hand of the police waiting for charges. We will continue monitoring the situation on the ground.

“Teveta is therefore warning the public against making any monetary transactions with any person lest they be duped by unscrupulous individuals. Be informed that training fees for students selected to technical colleges are paid at colleges’ offices or directly into the
college’ bank accounts. Thus, the public must desist from paying fees to any individual”, appeals Msasa.

Teveta is regulatory body established in 1999 by an act of Parliament to coordinate and facilitate technical, entrepreneurial and vocational education and training in Malawi.
