On Wednesday, the Democratic Progressive Party DPP welcomed to its fold the Secretary General of the Democratic People’s Congress (DEPECO) Ernest Maganga and another UTM official named Sabina Patel, who came along with a UTM district governor and hundreds of followers from UTM, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Peoples Party (PP).
The event took place at the Golden Peacock Hotel, where the aforementioned individuals were officially welcomed by ruling DPP Secretary General Jeff Wa Jeff.
Speaking to the Press after the official ceremony, Patel (formerly a UTM member) stated that a blatant lack of leadership and integrated vision to transform Malawi, has been the catalyst that triggered her departure from the UTM and subsequently led her to join the DPP.
They also stated that the DPP is the only party that has a large following and is likely to win the upcoming elections, based on a number of Projects that Mutharika’s government has implemented (or is set to implement), so they want to be attached to the winning team.
As for the DEPECO secretary General Ernest Maganga, he cited a flagrant deficiency of grassroot structures and an evident absence of followership, as the main reasons behind his departure from DEPECO.
The members welcomed were over 200.
