When gates of hell open loose, “For the love of money is the root of all evil”

3 Min Read

It raining cats and dogs at the palace, the big guy must be sweating blood when he notes that 8 out of 10 top stories making headlines in various media houses within a period of a week are from plot number 1. Is this an indication of poor governance? Is it showing that the regime of the big guy has more haters than lovers or is it because he has been surrounded by the gold diggers yes the money mongers who are bringing breaking news every now and then rendering sleepless nights to the first couple?

Meanwhile; there are a numerous traumatizing trends that are indeed giving Malawians questions which must at list once be given a true and honest answer. A week ago everyone was aware of what was a trending news all over.

This was none other than the issue of planning to sell the government owned entity the Malawi Savings Bank (MSB). This brought in the public outcry which led to finding out what has caused the government to sell it (MSB) which has existed for decades. The findings were quite disappointing as it was revealed that the government just wanted to cover up some of its officials who owe the bank billions and billions of kwachas.

A few days later, the MSB auctioned some of Mulli’s properties including warehouses, estates, vehicles etc. This angered Mulli who petitioned the big guy to use his influence and stop the bank from selling his properties else he will reveal some hidden secrets which took place from the beginning of the rise of the Mutharika clan. It’s quite obvious that this left the big guy with some headaches. As if that was not enough, the Ben Phiri trend emerged. This brought in a drama at the high level. It was really mind blowing that within a space of 1-2 hours we heard two breaking news from the State House.

The first one being that of resignation of the long serving aide to the big guy and the other one that the big guy through his spokesperson GV has rebuffed Ben Phiri’s resignation. And Phiri’s resignation is not in true faith one may say, as it has been noted that he has done his part in plundering government coffers following the research which is showing that he is a billionaire since his appearance in public in 2007 as the big guy’s aide. A billionaire within 7 years right here in Malawi while his fellow civil servants talk of teachers, police officers and so on and so forth never know taste of a mare million even after serving the government for over 40 years.

Now it’s Jumbe on the scene with his so called unfair dismissal compensation claims. All this started following the May 20, 2014 tripartite elections. Jumbe played the big mouth role in that comedy by stopping justice to prevail. Hence was awarded a contract to serve as the Managing Director of a bank which does not exist. He was getting his dues on the robot position and now he has been fired, consequently he has filed up a case against the big guy for unfair dismissal and he may end up scooping over a K0.5 billion from public funds if all goes well with him. So help Malawi God. The love of money is indeed the root of all this evil taking place in our land.
