Lilongwe, February 10 (MaraviPost): : The President of the Republic of Malawi H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika will on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 launch the Public Service Reform Programme, keeping a promise he made to Malawians while campaigning for the Presidency.
According to press release made available to The Maravi Post, Acting Presidential Press Secretary, Timpunza Mwansambo said the launch follows the President’s establishment of the Public Service Reform Commission in June 2014 which was chaired by Vice President Saulos Chilima, in fulfilment of his campaign promise to chart the national direction to ensure successful change towards a dynamic, efficient and effective public service.
“During the launch President Mutharika will also sign Organizational Performance Agreements (OPAs) with selected ministries including the Minister of Finance worldly heralded Goodall Gondwe as part of the reforms initiative,” said Mwansambo.
He said the OPA framework will set out clear steps so that the Civil Service has the capability and capacity to perform at the highest level possible, to ensure that civil servants are fully accountable.
Mwansambo said for the past months since its establishment in June, the Public Service Reforms Commission has had consultations with various stakeholders that included the private sector and the media to solicit input on reforming the public service.
The launch is planned to take place at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
