LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Judiciary has allocated MK422, 557,735.99 for the rehabilitation works of the Chief Justice official residence in Nyambadwe, Blantyre.

The Judiciary has published its intention to award the contract Jud/2022/01 to CPL Construction.

The Judiciary has therefore asked those with queries to contact the judiciary procurement committee within 14 days from October 24, 2022.

This comes amid President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government grappling with forex for essential commodities importation including medicines, fertilizer, fuel and among others.

The rehabilitation costs has not gone well with Malawians as how could one house for a public officer take huge some of money.

“What kind of rehabilitation is this? Is this in ministerial budget? The Canaan for the chief justice. Go ahead,” queries Victor Banda.

Shadreck Kalongonda chips in; “This money could construct two beautiful community Day Secondary Schools including three staff houses on each but this one on rehabilitation only? We are a sick nation”.

“We don’t have drugs in public hospitals, poor road networks the you prefer to allocate such amount of money just a rehabilitation. We joke too much in this country”, chides Sellaphine Banda.

Deus Chadza echoes, “If one stays in a house whose rehabilitation cost to such amount, what’s his benefits then? We are paying people who don’t deserve our hard earned taxes. What impact does chief justice play to our country development? If chief Justice need luxurious life style, let his do that to his house not on our money”.

The occupants of the rehabilitation of the house is Rezine Mzikamanda.

Malawi Judiciary is still facing public mistrust on how is executing its duties as some judges are accused of being corrupt and saving personal interests than that of the public.
