LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Kasungu-based Central Region Division One outfit, Chisomo Academy football club on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 scorched by defecating Blue Eagles Reserve 1-4 at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.
The win has increased their chances to finish the league in second position if they also win against the league leaders Mitundu Baptist in their last match of the season this coming Sunday.
The team dwells on position 3 with 40 points tied with second-placed Chatoloma ADMARC who also have a game to wrap up the season.
The visitors showed intent to win the game as they piled pressure on the home team from the early minutes of the game. No wonder in the 31st minute, Aubrey Kaimfa scored after receiving a beautiful cross from Mcdonald Chirwa.
Chifundo Ngochera scored from a rebound after the goalkeeper fumbled the ball from McDonald Chirwa’s powerful shot in the 37th minute to extend Chisomo Academy’s lead.
At halftime, the visitors were up by two goals to nil. In the second half, the visitors continued their dominance as the Eagles were disorganized in all departments, especially in defense which Chisomo capitalized on.
Maxwell Mbewe pulled one back for Blue Eagles Reserve in the 73rd minute after Moses Mangongo, the Chisomo goalkeeper failed to communicate with his central defenders.
As the host thought they would come back and score the equalizing goal, the visitors stretched their lead through Praise Kayenda.
The young cops continued struggling in the midfield and in defence hence giving room for Chisomo to keep pushing for additional goals.
In the 90th minute, Tawona Majawa scored to put the game beyond reach by the Eagles and soon the match ended.
Chisomo Academy head coach Chisomo Nkhoma was very excited for the pivotal away victory.
“We needed maximum points today as we aim to finish second in the league, thanks to the boys for the gallant fight. I told the boys to attack more and you witnessed in the first half we knocked much at their goal and managed to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.
“It was not an easy game as the Eagles are equally a good side. This victory means a lot to us as it will take us to the Premier Division”, Chisomo joyfully said.
Blue Eagles Reserve coach Ackim Kazombo acknowledged the defeat and attributed the loss to complacency amongst his boys.
“We played well in the first half for almost 20 minutes but after our counterpart scored those two goals, the morale went down. Indeed our defense let us down today. The journey started very well but the team was disturbed since a lot of players are school-going boys hence I keep changing the starting eleven”, said Kazombo.
Blue Eagles Reserve suffered back-to-back defeats as before Wednesday’s game, they were coming from another 3-1 loss against Green Rangers at St.Johns ground.
Chisomo Academy is now second on the ladder with 40 points from 21 games tied with third-placed Chatoloma ADMARC FC.
The team’s last game of the season will be played on Sunday 21st January 2024 at Kasungu Stadium against league Champions Mitundu Baptist FC.
Third-placed Chatoloma ADMARC welcomes Make Sure Pirates at Chatoloma ground.
The top three teams will earn promotion into the Central region Chipiku Stores Premier Division league.
Other results on Wednesday, Mitundu Baptist stunned Green Rangers 1-0 to take their tally of points to 47 from 21 games.
Young Professionals were awarded maximum points and two goals following Balang’ombe Real Bombers’ failure to show up in Ntcheu.
