Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) has conferred its former president Supreme Court Judge Dunsatin Mwaungulu honoray life president.
Justice Dunstain Mwaungulu served the association during the time the association good sponsorship including the Nico Marathon, Dairiborn Ching’ombe.
AAM President Godfrey Phiri, who served a Vice-President to Justice Mwaungulu said the appointment was in recognition to the contribution he made to develop sports in the country.
He said the association had the mandate to appoint or bestow an award for contributing to the development.
“The good thing he did to athletics convincingly left the executive with no choice but to honour the Judge in according to Article 11 sub-section 11 of the Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) Constitution which allows us to co-opt and or appoint him as honorary life president,” Phiri said.
The appointment is with effect from 1 June 2015 and he will act as an adviser to the association.
Mwaungulu welcomed the appointment saying he was humbled.
“It is great honour to be honour such a responsibility. I will try my best to help athletics develop in the country,” Justice Mwaungulu said.
“However my coming into the sport will require us to work together as a team. We need to sit down and organise pre-arranged plans and budget and attract more youths with the sports.
He promised to lobby for sponsorship from the corporate world.
