LILONGWE-(Maravipost)-Blue Eagles Reserve intensified their quest to win the 2025 Chipiku Stores Premier Division League on Wednesday, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Dwangwa United at Nankhaka Stadium.

The visitors showed no mercy to the current league leaders, taking an early lead through a stunning free-kick by Mustapher Sande in the 28th minute.

Dwangwa, coming off a 1-0 away defeat to Extreme FC, tried desperately to level matters in the first half but their efforts proved fruitless.

Eagles demonstrated quality play through Stacia Chibala, Witson Linguni, Moses Mwale, and Madalitso Khamula.

However, the home side was sluggish in decision-making, particularly in the final third.

This allowed the visitors to effectively block dangerous attacks and clear balls from the penalty area until the halftime whistle, with Dwangwa holding their 1-0 advantage.

The home side found their equalizer early in the second half when Sailesi Phiri struck in the 48th minute.

The goal energized the young Eagles players, who began pressing hard in search of the winning goal.

Recognizing weaknesses in his team’s attacking play, head coach Christopher Sibale made several substitutions, bringing on John Usain and Martin Andrew for Sailesi Phiri and Moses Mwale respectively. The changes brought immediate stability to their attack as they continued to pressure Dwangwa’s goal.

Dwangwa goalkeeper Emmanuel Yasin stood firm, making crucial saves to keep his side in the match.

However, his resistance was finally broken when substitute John Usain scored a dramatic winner in the 90th minute.

The victory lifted Blue Eagles Reserve to 29 points, maintaining their position at the top of the table and strengthening their hopes of winning this year’s Centre Chipiku Premier Division League.

In his post-match interview, Blue Eagles Reserve head coach Christopher Sibale praised his team’s resilience while acknowledging areas for improvement.

“I’m happy we won the match. It was tough as the visitors showed great resilience,” said Sibale.

“We were slow in decision-making, which is why we made several changes that ultimately led to our two goals.

We’re confident about winning the league, and we’ll work on strengthening our attacking third during the break”, he added.

Dwangwa coach Martin Aidi accepted the defeat but raised concerns about officiating standards.

“We lost, but many factors contributed to it. We have a very youthful squad that might be affected by playing away from home, and there were also officiating issues,” explained Aidi. “I appeal to the referees’ body to allocate more competent officials. Nevertheless, we’ll work hard and prepare for our next game.”

Dwangwa United FC continues to struggle despite being considered one of the league’s bigger teams. They currently sit in 14th position with just 7 points, fighting to avoid relegation.

Extreme FC remain second on the table with 25 points following their away draw against Chisomo Academy in Kasungu.
