MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-The Eastern Region Football Association has announced that the 2026/27 Durata Premier Division League season will officially kick off on May 31, 2026.

According to a statement signed by the association’s General Secretary, Elia Nyirongo, the launch event will take place at Vision Ground in Ntaja, Machinga District.

The opening fixture is expected to draw huge attention as Ntaja Rangers will face off against Nselema United.

ERFA Chairperson Issa Ibrahim has meanwhile assured football lovers that the association has worked on addressing challenges that affected last season’s competition.

Ibrahim admitted that the previous campaign experienced administrative difficulties, especially in recording yellow and red cards as well as accurately tracking goal statistics across match weeks.

He explained that the league management faced such setbacks partly because it was their first season organizing and running the competition at regional level but said new systems have now been put in place to avoid similar problems this season.

Ibrahim added that preparations for the new campaign are progressing smoothly ahead of the official launch in Ntaja, where supporters are expected to witness one of the region’s fiercest football rivalries.

“When these two teams meet, it is always more than just a game because the atmosphere is electric. We are therefore asking football fans to come in large numbers and enjoy exciting football,” said Ibrahim.

The new campaign is also expected to provide another platform for emerging football talent in the Eastern Region as teams battle for glory in one of Malawi’s growing regional leagues.
