Cape Town Marathon 2026 Road Closures

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is set to take place in Cape Town on 23 and 24 May 2026, and we have all the road closure details to help you plan your commute in and around the city.

The 42.2km marathon is an annual global city race that showcases spectacular views of Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean, and historic landmarks.

Here are the road closures for this year’s event:

Road Closures

To ensure the safe and smooth running of these events, road closures and parking restrictions will be implemented along the race routes on both days.

Parking

The road closures will result in limited to no access to parking near the start and finish areas.

Free Shuttle Transport

Free shuttle services are available for all Expo visitors, participants, and spectators travelling between the Start, Finish, and key city points.

Pick-up / Drop-off Points

  • V&A Waterfront
  • Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC)
  • Cape Town Civic Centre (Thibault Square)

Shuttle Times: Thursday: 08:30am – 7:30pm, Friday: 08:30am – 10pm, Saturday: 05:30am – 5:30pm, Sunday: (Start): 05:30am – 06:45am* and Sunday (Return): 11am – 5:30pm

There is no Sunday morning shuttle from V&A Waterfront to the Start.

Please note:  

  • No pedestrian crossing after 07h30 at Beach Rd & Portswood Rd due to the Wheelchair Race (07h50).
  • If parking at the V&A Waterfront, arrive at the Start by 07h30 latest.
  • Parking: Over 7,500 bays available at the V&A Waterfront (standard rates apply)
