Malawi teachers set January 20, 2020 sit-in

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Teachers in the country will from Monday January 20, 2020, be on a sit-in as their mother body, Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM), will hold demonstrations in all the District Councils (DC) in a bid to force the government to pay their counterparts who missed their December, 2019 salaries.

According to a letter that TUM wrote on January 17, 2020 to the Ministries of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) and Local Government, some primary and secondary school teachers and Teacher Training Colleges (TTC) lecturers were removed from the government payroll because they did not submit their National Identity Cards to the relevant authorities.

In October last year, some government teachers in country held a sit-in, demanding to the government to pay them their long standing arrears.
