MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Malawi government through the Ministry of Health and Population will from today, April 13, 2020 start distributing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the district hospitals across the country in the face of escalating numbers of Covid 19 cases.

Minister responsible, Jappie Mhango, made the announcement when he was updating the nation on the new confirmed case of Covid 19.

Mhango said: “Supplies of Personal Protective Equipment are being distributed to districts by government and UNICEF. This is a serious issue and I just want to assure our health workers that government remains very steadfast to ensure that all our health workers are protected and they will be protected by being provided with necessary personal protective equipment.

“The government will be providing some PPE through the Ministry of Disaster. And this week we will be preparing more PPE such as medical suits and masks to make sure we have got enough or adequate stocks in the country.”

During the press briefing on Sunday, Mhango announced that a new case of Covid 19 has been confirmed; raising the number to 13.

Mhango said this case is a 55 year old Blantyre based man of Asian origin.

Meanwhile, health workers in the country are protesting against lack of personal protective equipment in the health facilities in the country.

Numbers of confirmed cases of Covid 19 in the country are increasing by the day with the latest being at 13 with two deaths recorded.
