Chelsea and Cote d’Ivoire legend Didier Drogba has announced that he has separated from his wife, Lalla Diakate whom he built a relationship with for over 20 years.
Drogba met Diakate in the 1990s in Paris and have been together since then, before getting married in 2011.
The couple have three children together, including a 20-year-old son named Isaac who is also a professional footballer.
Drogba’s marriage came crashing after appearing in an intimate video in bed with a mystery woman last year.
These followed some media gossips that the marriage had crashed since the video went public.
In the video, Drogba appeared bare-chested in bed with a nearly-naked young woman.
The lady playfully sunk her teeth into Drogba’s shoulder as he screamed in pain.
Although a representative who disputed the video claimed Drogba was hacked.
With several rumour surrounding his marriage, Drogba was forced to make a statement, confirming his split from Diakate.
He wrote; “I’m not in the habit of discussing my private life. But, because of speculation in the media today, I can confirm that sadly, after 20 years together, Lalla and I took the difficult decision to separate last year.
“We remain very close, and our main priorities have been to protect our children and our family’s private life. “May God bless you.”
