LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Be warned, Malawi! Lands minister Kezzie Msukwa says government will soon start confiscating land that has stayed for more than 2 years without being developed.

Minister Msukwa disclosed the plan when he presented a ministerial statement in parliament on Friday, March 19, 2021.

Msukwa observes that land in the country’s cities continues to remain underdeveloped with some staying idle for more than 30 years.

The Minister warned that government is going to claim idle land and give it to others to develop or develop it for government’s use.

He added that even those that have just constructed a fence, government shall confiscate the land saying a fence is not development.

Msukwa therefore warned the land owners in the cities to develop the land or risk confiscation.

There are a lot of undeveloped land in major cities of Malawi whose owners use as collateral when accessing funds in banks.
