LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Airtel Malawi’s Zili Mwa Ife Campaign on Saturday night, March 31, 2023 awarded more eight individuals with cash prizes for various initiatives embarking to change their societies for better.
The eight awardees including Christopher Trapence; received MK3 million for creating a chicken egg incubator using locally found materials and imparting the skills to over 100 farmers, Jonathan Mnjemu got MK3 million for fundraising to construct school classes and administration blocks for over 500 children.
Another MK3 million went to Juma Ali who developed a student grading mobile phone application that provides convenience for teachers in his community.
Kanduwe Sande got MK2 million for building a sports facility that accommodates football, netball and basketball sports codes with his bare hands.

Elias Matope was also rewarded with MK3.5 million for supporting over 800 learners with shoes for walking to school while Malumbo Harawa and Stanislus Sakwiya got MK4 million each for fixing oxygen concentrators and other medical appliances for free and developing MlimiPay an application that is used by over 870 farmers to save for farm inputs.
Lastly, Kelvin Banda got MK2 million for setting up a community library and encouraging kids in his community to read.
Airtel Malawi marketing director Thokozani Sande told the presentation ceremony gathering that the campaign has unearthed outstanding community champions.
Sande disclosed that as the campaign progresses, Malawians will be given chance to vote for the best five individual stories final awards.
“If you observe closely to the stories by these people they touch in several sectors such as Education, Health, Agriculture just to mention a few.
“From here we will be going to the last phase where we intend to splash MK37.5 million to the top last 5 stories that we received in this campaign”, she said.
Sande added, “Our judges will go back to review the stories and a vote will be done to find the winner.
“The first prize will go away with MK12 million, the second prize will pocket NK10 million, the third prize being K7.5 million while 4th and 5th prize will be MK5 million and K3 million respectively”.
One of the awardees, Malumbo Harawa, a biomedical engineer, lauded Airtel for the initiative by embracing community champions work.
The campaign has so far spent MK63 million to 16 individuals out of MK100.5 million which was allocated for the campaign.
Launched in September 2022, Zili Mwa campaign aims at rewarding society heroes of their impact work.
