The Basketball Association of Malawi (BAM) has highlighted the numerous opportunities that the sport presents for talented Malawian youth to enhance their skills and achieve economic development.

Speaking at the ongoing national basketball tournament at the KUHES Sports complex in Blantyre, BAM’s Director of Marketing, Ntchiwa Chiwaya, emphasized the growing popularity of basketball among young people in the country.

Chiwaya noted that the current tournament, which features the top eight male and eight female teams, demonstrates the increasing interest in the sport. “Basketball has a lot to offer our talented youth, not just in terms of skill development but also economic opportunities,” Chiwaya said.

CDH Investment Bank, a major sponsor of the tournament, has pledged its continued support for the sport.

Jamal Kamoto, Chief Business Development Officer at CDH Investment Bank, revealed that the bank has contributed K44 million towards this year’s national basketball championship.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that both rural and urban citizens participate in basketball,” Kamoto said.

The partnership between BAM and CDH Investment Bank underscores the growing recognition of basketball’s potential to drive youth development and economic growth in Malawi.

As the tournament continues, stakeholders hope that it will inspire more young people to take up the sport and pursue their dreams.
