DURBAN-(MaraviPost)-Malawi will now shift their attention to the Bronze medal after succumbing to a 9-6 defeat to Morocco in the semi-finals of the Beach Soccer Cosafa Cup in Durban, South Africa.
Willy Kumlambe’s men were dogging for revenge as Morocco beat them 7-2 at the AFCON in Mozambique and their start really matched their ambition.
A game of halves it was as Malawi controlled the proceedings in the first 12 minutes but the guests were too hot in the second 12 minutes.
Two goals in two minutes for Malawi prompted Malawians to think that the team was on its way to the final but in a twist of events, Morocco were able to up their game in the second 12 minutes.
Dala Simba had an early goal for Malawi before Brien Nkhumbula doubled the lead for Kumlambe’s men with a brilliant header 60 seconds later.
Though Morocco manages to pull one back in the sixth minute, Isaac Kajamu plundered a brilliant goal from free-kick to extend the lead for Malawi.
Malawi scored three in the first 12 minutes, Morocco scored three in the second dozen of minutes.
Sandram Saddie early goal in the second half couldn’t make Morocco doubt their ability despite trailing 4-1. They scored three goals in five minutes after Malawi downed their tempo.
With two teams going level at the break, it was an intense last 12 minutes.
Morocco led within the first minute but they scored an own goal to bring Malawi into the game.
Isaac Kajamu’s goal was not enough to get a draw for Malawi as Morocco scored three minutes.
Malawi will battle for the Bronze medal tomorrow, Saturday against the losers between Saudi Arabia and Mozambique who face off in another semi-final.
