Blantyre, March 25: Blantyre City Council has confirmed that it will start relocation process of people located in prohibited areas in Soche by end of the rainy season.
This comes following a court order which restrained people living in prohibited and marginal areas and instructed them to relocate to given recommended areas in Blantyre.
In response to a written questionnaire from Mana the Public Relations Officer for Blantyre City Council Anthony Kasunda said the people will be relocated to South Lunzu.
“The council had allocated plots to about 62 families who were initially asked to leave some time back before the long court battle started. But due to the delays other people occupied the plots for cultivation which has forced us to extend the duration until they harvest then we will enforce the law,” said Kasunda.
Kasunda also said people involved in this relocation exercise have come to understand why they have to be relocated following the court order but also the recent disaster that left some marks in a number of citizens living in marginal areas on Soche Mountain.
“There is a court order which gives mandate to Blantyre City Council to conduct relocations, any person or family that declines relocation will be in contempt of the court order,” confirmed Kasunda.
Meanwhile, the council has clearly said it will not be involved in any provision of construction of houses or building materials and therefore everyone has to cater for their settlement.
