KAMPALA-(MaraviPost)-Bobi Wine’s wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, and their children have reportedly sneaked out of the country after security forces took over their Magere home in Uganda.
The move comes amidst heightened tensions between the Ugandan government and the opposition leader, Bobi Wine, who has been in hiding since the January 15 presidential election.
The takeover of Bobi Wine’s home by security forces has been condemned by opposition leaders and human rights groups, who describe it as an attempt to intimidate and silence the opposition leader.
According to reports, the security forces have been surrounding the home, preventing anyone from entering or leaving the premises.
Bobi Wine, who ran for president against incumbent Yoweri Museveni, has rejected the election results, citing widespread irregularities and fraud.
He has been urging his supporters to remain peaceful and to continue demanding for a transparent and fair election process.
The Ugandan government has denied any wrongdoing, with army chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba stating that the deployment of security forces around Bobi Wine’s home is intended to ensure his safety.
However, opposition leaders and human rights groups have expressed skepticism about the government’s intentions, pointing out that Bobi Wine’s family has been subjected to harassment and intimidation.
The situation in Uganda remains tense, with reports of arrests and abductions of opposition supporters and leaders.
The international community has been urged to take action to ensure that the Ugandan government respects the rights of its citizens and allows for a peaceful transfer of power.
