BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have officially concluded the process of receiving applications for the vacant position of head coach, attracting strong interest both locally and internationally.
The club’s Chief Executive Officer, Albert Chigoga, confirmed that at least 30 coaches submitted their applications, a development that highlights the growing appeal and stature of the People’s Team on the continental football scene.
Chigoga disclosed that more than 20 of the applicants are from outside Malawi, although he declined to reveal the specific countries represented, citing confidentiality at this stage of the recruitment process.
However, information gathered indicates that some of the foreign coaches who applied are from Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa, among other countries, underlining strong regional interest in the Bullets job.
The search has also attracted local attention, with current caretaker coach Gilbert Chirwa confirming that he has applied for the post in a bid to be appointed on a permanent basis.
Chirwa has been in charge of the team in an interim capacity and is well familiar with the club’s structures, players and ambitions, making him one of the notable candidates in the race.
Meanwhile, Chigoga has defended the club’s decision to proceed with player recruitment despite not yet appointing a substantive head coach.
He explained that Big Bullets cannot afford to delay activity in the transfer market, especially as competition for quality players is intensifying ahead of the new season.
According to the CEO, the club is acting on recommendations from its technical panel to identify and secure top talent that will strengthen the squad.
“We need to sign good players from the market so that the incoming coach finds a competitive team.If we delay, other teams will sign the best players and that would disadvantage us,” Chigoga explained.
In the meantime, Big Bullets have reportedly concluded negotiations with Karonga United to sign goalkeeper Maclean Mwale, who is expected to join the People’s Team ahead of the new season.
Big Bullets finished the 2025 TNM Super League season in second position with 66 points from 30 matches, registering 21 wins, six losses and three draws.
