DOWA-(MaraviPost)-The Catholic Commission for Peace and Justice (CCJP) in the arch diocese of Lilongwe has reiterated its commitment to enhancing women’s participation in electoral processes across the country.
This call was made during a Trainers Training Workshop with financial support from United Nations Development Program (UNDP) held in Dowa district in preparations for 2025 elections.

emphasized the importance of empowering women and ensuring their active involvement in democratic processes
“We cannot underestimate the role of women in shaping our nation and their participation in electoral processes is crucial for a well-functioning democracy and the overall development of our society,” stated Sandram.
He added CCJP wants to support Malawi electoral Commission (MEC) in reaching it’s target of 10 million registered voters by helping in civic and voter education across the diocese.
He further said the commission’s hope is that more women are going to come out both as voters and candidates for the elections.
Pedro Kampala,one of the participants, welcomed CCJP’s efforts to promote gender equality and women’s involvement in electoral processes.
He echoed the sentiment that women’s experiences and perspectives are vital for addressing pressing social issues and driving equitable development in the country.
“Our society thrives when we have diverse voices at the table and Women have unique insights and perspectives that enrich our decision-making processes,” said Kampala
Kampala said by encouraging and empowering women to participate in elections and other political processes, we are not only promoting gender equality but also fostering a more inclusive and just society.
CCJP Director of Social Development and Industries, Brian Odhiambo highlighted the organization’s long-standing commitment to promoting social justice and human rights.
He emphasized that the call for increased women’s participation in electoral processes aligns with CCJP’s broader goal of creating a society built on equality, justice, and respect for all.
“CCJP firmly believes in the principles of gender equality and equal representation and we are dedicated to fostering an environment where women can freely participate in political decision-making processes and contribute to the social development and industries of our country,” stated the CCJP Director.
The project will be implemented in all the 29 districts of the country.
