LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera wound up his whistle-stop tour of Dedza District at the main market by assuring voters that the long-awaited loop road, whose construction has just resumed, will soon be completed to serve its intended purpose.
The road is vital as it connects several locations to key facilities such as the hospital, district council, banks, and markets.
Chakwera emphasized that his administration remains committed to constructing quality roads, improving health facilities, and fostering a cordial relationship with neighbouring Mozambique.
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) General Secretary, Richard Chimwendo Banda, said that once completed, the loop road would not only ease mobility but also add beauty to Dedza District.
Banda, who also serves as Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, further noted that apart from implementing various development projects, the Chakwera-led government has prioritized the protection of people with albinism.
MCP’s District Chairperson for Dedza, Joshua Malango, who is also aspiring Member of Parliament for Dedza Kasina Constituency, expressed gratitude to the president for implementing numerous development projects.
Malango said the projects are evidence enough for the MCP-led government to secure victory in the September 16 General Elections.
He added that President Chakwera’s administration has shown true commitment to serving Malawians, even in the face of challenges experienced over the past five years.
Malango cited natural disasters linked to climate change as one of the difficulties the country has faced, yet he stressed that the president has managed to uplift people’s lives both nationally and in Dedza specifically.
Parliamentary candidate for Dedza Boma Constituency, Gerald Kampanikiza, appealed to voters to turn out in large numbers and support the MCP on September 16, describing it as the best option for the district and the nation.
However, Kampanikiza also urged the president to prioritize the timely distribution of affordable farm inputs in Dedza.
Earlier, Inkosi Kamenyagwaza described Dr. Chakwera as a unique leader who has endured many challenges but has never abandoned his people.
President Chakwera is scheduled to continue his whistle-stop campaign tour in Dedza tomorrow.
Concluding Analysis
President Chakwera’s visit to Dedza highlighted his administration’s focus on infrastructure, agriculture, and social protection ahead of the September 16 elections.
The resumption of the loop road construction carries symbolic and practical importance, as it demonstrates government responsiveness to community needs while also serving as a rallying point for voter support.
While optimism surrounds the ongoing development projects, the electorate’s expectations—particularly around agricultural inputs and service delivery—remain high.
The challenge for the MCP will be to ensure these promises materialize beyond the campaign period, reinforcing credibility and trust among Malawians.
