Chakwera donates to St Peter’s Parish in Mzuzu

MZUZU-(MANA)-President Lazarus Chakwera and the First Lady, Monica Chakwera, on Sunday attended a mass service at St. Peter’s Cathedral Catholic Church of Mzuzu Diocese, presided over by the auxiliary bishop of the diocese, Bishop Yohane Nyirenda.

The President’s attendance to the event coincided with Golden Sunday, a fundraising event the faithful of the parish towards various development projects taking place in the parish’s jurisdiction.

President Chakwera donated MK2 million towards the cause.

In his sermon, Bishop Nyirenda preached on the need to pursue and maintain national unity to overcome various challenges encountered in life.

He advised those with a little something to always share with those who are resource deprived and said those in leadership are positioned to receive complaints.

“When the Israelites were passing through Sinai Desert they complained to Moses. Those of you in leadership need to realise that you are not immune to various requests and complaints.

“You need to realise that those complaints and outcries are being addressed to God. As such, you need seek God’s guidance in all your pursuits. You need to have faith in God for he is giver and provider of all our needs,” he said.

He advised people to strengthen their faith in God at the same time be resourceful and adopt a spirit of hard work in their various endeavors.

Speaking at the end of the Mass, Bishop Nyirenda thanked the President for sparing his time to pray and worship at the church.

He said the church reaches out to many souls for spiritual and physical needs.

He expressed concern over poor road network which he said was hindering the church efforts.

“We are happy that the M1 Road rehabilitation project is under way. However, we have concerns over some unfinished projects that started way back like Mzimba- Mzirawaingwe Road. This project has been going on painfully slowly.

“This road links Hora where we were yesterday. It is dusty and bumpy. We hope the construction works will resume soon and end in good time, so that all of us can celebrate,” explained Nyirenda.

During his stay in Mzuzu the president attended notable public events like Mzuzu University Graduation ceremony and Mzimba Ngoni’s uMthetho Cultural Festival.
