Chakwera urges chiefs to mobilise people for voters registration

DEDZA-(MANA)-President Lazarous Chakwera has called on chiefs in Dedza to promote 2025 General Election voter registration as one way of strengthening the countrys good governance.

He made the call Tuesday, at Linthipe Secondary School where he interacted with over 700 chiefs on his whistle-stop tour to inspect development projects in the district.

The president said if people do not register it will be impossible for them to vote in next years election.

“Government is working tirelessly to uphold principles of democracy for the common good of a local Malawian. This is the reason my government is strengthening the decentralization programme by raising the Constituency Development Fund from MK100 million to MK200 million for the sake of common Malawian.

“I will continue empowering chiefs in the development process by increasing the number of gazetted chiefs. I blame the previous regime for reckless spending that led to gaps in development of the nation. It is such misappropriations that is affecting progress development in the country,” he said.

The Malawi leader then assured chiefs that his government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure construction of tarmac roads in the district among other developments.

He said government is discussing with other development partners on debt repayment mechanisms to ensure progress on development.

Said President Chakwera,” Some of the challenges the country is facing are a result of natural disasters hence government through Agriculture Commercialisation and National Economic Empowerment Fund, is empowering farmers to promote their resilience to natural shocks.

He therefore urged farmers not to relent but to continue working hard in their farms.

The Malawi leader then urged chiefs in the district to continue promoting peace and enjoy diverse cultures.

Senior Chief Chauma commended President Chakwera for sparing time to meet the chiefs.
