BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The UTM leader Dr Dalitso Kabambe says President Lazarus Chakwera’s Agriculture, Tourism and Mining (ATM) Strategy being advocated is paper work nothing on the ground.

The former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor observes that “if there was action and strong commitment to political will, the nation could not be run out of forex”.

Dr. Kabambe told Mibawa TV over the weekend that lacks insightful leadership to turn natural resources into fortunes for many.

Kabambe said Malawi has everything to make itself rich citing mineral deposits in Karonga/Rumphi, Chitipa, Songwe, Mulanje, Neno-Mwanza, Balaka, Kasungu, Malingunde and Kasiya saying these mines if used properly can change Malawi from a begging country to an industrious nation.

He expressed fears with the country’s debt which is over MK18 trillion when the country is not producing for export only importing saying this development has made the country to be chained with huge loans on its head.

Dr Kabambe made it clear that no country will help Malawi to get rich but Malawians themselves have to sacrifice with their own resources to pay back the loans which the country has with the international community and donors.

Kabambe expressed his sadness that during this tobacco selling season, tobacco is being sold in US Dollars for forex but this forex is being enjoyed by those in government while the poor farmers are crying after selling their tobacco at the exchange fixed rate of K1,700 per 1 Kg.

“The majority in the central region of Malawi are farmers who are lying on tobacco for their everyday life situations, but they are all crying for low prices at the Auction Floors,” said Kabambe.

The UTM leader however has attracted praises from Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s Dowa diehard Rodgers Kamphangala with observation that listening from the interview Dr. Kabambe had with Mibawa Television has made up a conclusion that this country needs the services of an economist like Kabambe to be President of the Republic of Malawi than the country to be in the hands of politicians.

Kamphangala observes that Dr Kabambe remains the nation’s which Malawians can have trust in them on the 16th September, 2025 that they can change the whole political, economic and social setups in Malawi.

The MCP diehard said Malawians have tried Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and have seen for themselves their fruits; nepotism, regionalism, tribalism and rampant corruption.

Dr Kabambe has been on national wide tour with message of hope for economic hardship liberation amid high cost of living, fuel, sugar, food, forex crises.
