LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government has ordered all refugees and asylum seekers living and plying business outside Dzaleka Refugee Camp to return to the camp within 14 days effective April 1, 2021.
Ministry of Homeland Security Spokesperson Andrew Nyondo defended the decision of chasing away refugees from operating business or residing areas not sanctioned by government.
Nyondo justifies the decision saying is in line with the encampment policy which entails that all refugees and asylum seekers plying business should do so within the camp premises and not anywhere else.
He therefore warned that failure to comply with the order, the Malawi government will not hesitate but to use necessary force for the refugees and asylum seekers to return to the camp.
But Nyondo did not give details if Dzaleka Refugees Camp in central district of Dowa will accommodate refugees and asylum seekers mushroomed across the country.
