LILONGWE (MaraviPost): Traditional leader in Dowa have called on the Minister of Local Government, Richard Chimwendo Banda, to facilitate the mobilization of additional funds for the Tukula Pakhomo social support program in a bid to uplift the livelihoods of vulnerable households in the district.

The Senior Chief Msakambewa made the appeal on Sunday March 25,during a political rally held at the Dowa Community Ground, where Chimwendo addressed residents on ongoing development initiatives.

Msakambewa emphasized the need for more robust financial support to sustain the program, which has become a vital lifeline for many families.

“The Tukula Pakhomo initiative has brought hope to many people in our community. We urge the government to scale up the program and ensure more households benefit from it,” said the chief.

Minister Chimwendo acknowledged the concerns and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding social protection programs, noting that improving the well-being of rural communities remains a top priority.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo reaffirmed his commitment to driving development in Dowa, promising a range of infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the district.

He announced plans to construct a modern stadium, health centers, and schools as part of government efforts to improve access to essential services and boost local livelihoods.

“As your representative and as Secretary General of the MCP, I will not relent in championing development in this area. We are committed to building a stadium, more health facilities, and schools to ensure that every citizen has access to better opportunities,” said Chimwendo.

He urged the community to work together and support ongoing government initiatives, assuring them that Dowa remains a key focus in the country’s development agenda.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Central Region Chairperson, Zebron Chilondola, has called on party supporters and traditional leaders in Dowa to rally behind candidates who emerged victorious in the party’s primary elections ahead of the 2025 polls.

Chilondola discouraged community leaders from backing independent candidates who are campaigning under the guise of MCP affiliation.

“Let us all unite behind those who won in the MCP primaries. Supporting independent candidates claiming to be MCP members will only divide our votes and weaken the party’s chances,” warned Chilondola.
