A Lilongwe based Arts Theatre group called Chikwatu is challenging that unless Malawians are civic educated on human rights, people with albinism will continue facing abuse.
Director for ‘Chikwatu’ Stanley Mambo said this on Friday in Lilongwe that the group decided to introduce a Play dubbed ‘Ndulu’ to share the evils of killing people with albinism.
According to Mambo, the theatre group has embarked on a national wide campaign to sensitize the masses to accord people with albinism their full rights by not discriminating them.
“These cases of albino attacks are happening in areas where it’s not easy to reach, even people in that community can’t access a radio because they are very far, so the attackers took advantages of this thinking People in that area don’t know anything that albinos have rights too” he said
On his Part Raymond Kesi Chairman for Chikwatu Arts Theatre attributed the barbaric acts of some people by killing persons with albinism early last year a thing that prompted them to put that into a Play.
“What happened was very unfortunate, people with albinism were leaving in fear as if this is not their country, Malawians let’s have a heart of caring and loving, why killing a fellow human being? Let’s just work hard in whatever we do that will make us rich” Kesi said.
In the Play, Sekeni played by Raymond Kesi is married to an albino Woman played by Grace Phiri, but later is deceived by a Eluby(Chikondi Chinsolo) a lady from the city to divorce his wife and marry her.
Beautiful as she was Sekeni succumbed to pressure and divorced his wife for the town lady, when in town Eluby told Sekeni to get rid of her ex-wife and use her as a Charm to get rich a thing that happened.
But later they realised that despite the job being done no fortunes had come in their lives.
Chikwatu Arts Theatre was formed in the year 2014 and so far has Premiered three Plays.
