Donors have pledged to help National Statistics Office with MK1.6 billion to overcome its deficit of paying enumerators working in this year’s population and housing census.
Spokesperson of NSO, Kingsley Manda, confirmed the development saying on Thursday they had a steering meeting with stakeholders to help them with money in its forthcoming survey.
According to Manda equipments for the survey already jetted in the country and said the deficit which has hit the department is to do with salaries of people working in this year’s survey.
Manda revealed that next week, the department will commence the exercise of finding enumerators to conduct the survey in September in the country.
He said the department will soon embark on the exercise of sensitising people on the importance of registering in the population and housing census.
“Equipment about the survey arrived last week and soon we will start sensitising people on the importance of registering in the population and housing census,” Manda said.
The population and housing census happens after every 10 decades in Malawi.
Reports indicate that government is going to use MK8 billion  in the forthcoming survey.
