Edgar Lungu re-elected Zambia President in chaotic election At exactly 14:04 pm, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ )chairperson Justice Esau Chulu declared incumbent President Edgar Lungu as the new President of the 11th August 2016 chaotic election.Lungu defeated his closest rival Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND by 100, 530 to secure the required 50%+1 threshold.

Pres. Lungu polled 1, 860, 877 while Hichilema managed 1, 760, 347. The actual percentage scored by President Lungu is 50.3%.

Meanwhile, the opposition UPND are protesting the outcome of the election saying it was rigged. They demanded a recount of the votes in Lusaka District.
