This year’s results show an 11 percent improvement in the pass rate from last year. That is remarkable. It shows that inspite of everything being thrown at the education system, there is some resilience amongst the teachers and the students.
However, in the bigger scheme of things, a 52 percent pass means a 48 percent failure rate. That is not something to be proud of. We have a lot of work to do to enable more students to pass, and the improvement this years shows that this can be done.
MANEB keep improving and their analysis this year is very helpful. The six schools where not a single student passed will be known in due course, but they deserve more of our empathy and understanding, than condemnation. Most secondary schools have an arduous task to produce good results, so these six schools need to given more support and encouragement.
