Euro 2020

The Euro 2020 tournament will begin in June, though France’s Euro 2020 squad is beginning to take shape already. Choosing and incredibly strong squad, manager Didier Deschamps hope to include both fresh and seasoned players to the squad.

So, who will win the Euro 2020 according to football predictions today? Plenty of punters and bookies alike believe that France will emerge victorious. The last nation to be both a European and World champions at the same was Spain. France would be in that position had they not lost the Euro 2016 final to Portugal. France also had one of the toughest qualifying group and only late on fell to Turkey, when they lost away.

France failed to get out of the group stage during the Nations League though they boast of an experienced squad, especially when it comes to their front line. Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann have 69 international goals between them, with 21-year old Kylian Mbappe has 13. Additionally, the improved form of Anthony Martial is also a boost for France, with Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante at the midfield also being vital for France.

To say the least, France have the toughest group in the competition but they should be able to get through the competitions knock-out stages, but again anything could happen. If you look around, you’ll notice that plenty of free sports forecasts and odds that seem to favor France heavily. To some extent, this is understandable. France has an embarrassment of riches at its disposal boasting of some of the best players in world football.

Former player and France captain Didier Deschamps is the manager of France, and only the third ever person who managed to win the World Cup both as a player and manager – behind Franz Beckenbauer and Mario Zagallo.

Didier Deschamps became the manager of France nearly a decade ago, back in 2012. Following spells at Monaco, Marseille, and Juventus as manager, Deschamps later joined a disjointed France side. Since becoming the manager of France, Deschamps has managed to transform France into World Cup winners and European Championship finalists, and he will be looking to rectify France’s 2016 final loss.

But what about France past record in the Euros? After hosting the inaugural tournament back in 1960, France failed to qualify for the Euros again up until Euro 84, when they managed to win the championship. Surprisingly, they failed to qualify for 1988 version of the tournament, and only managed to the group stages in 1992.

France 3rd place finish in Euro 96 was later followed by another win in the tournament when participating in Euro 2000, the moment David Trezeguet scored France’s goal at extra-time to beat Italy by 2-1. In Euro 2004 and Euro 2012, France managed to reach the quarter-finals. Euro 2008 signaled some discontent among the France’s squad as the failed to progress from the group stages.

When France hosted the competitions in 2016, they believed that it was the perfect time for them to win their third European Championship. On making their way to the final, the Les Bleus were theclear favorites when facing a weakened Portugal side when Cristiano Ronald limped off the field injured. Unfortunately, they lost the final in extra-time following a goal by Eder, much to the displeasure of France fans.

This time round, France will be hoping to rectify their mistakes, especially following their 2018 World Cup win. While there are other sides that may win the Euro 2020 such as England, Belgium, or even Spain, many believe that France will emerge victorious on the upcoming competition.
