BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—The state-owned Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has gone an extra mile by securing rights to beam all the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) 2016 games.
In an interview with MBCTV monitored by Maravi Post, MBC Spokesperson Thembi Malinki explained that “MBC, as the market leader, has seen the need to have quality sports programming that is in line with its mandate of informing, entertaining and educating the nation.”
The State broadcaster is, by far, the only local station that has secured the rights according to Malinki and it will beam all the games starting with the kick-off on June 10, 2016 to the closing ceremony on July 10.
“This is also an unparalleled opportunity for advertisers to have their products and services a front row seat in the football showcase as a lot of Malawians love football and would not pass this opportunity to watch some of the world’s greatest players,” he added.
She further explains that the soccer action which will be transmitted live from France will also involve commentary and analysis in both English and Chichewa by local sports experts.
UEFA Euro 2016 will be the 15th edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international men’s footballchampionship of Europe organized by UEFA. It is scheduled to be held in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016. Spain are two-time defending champions.
For the first time, the European Championship final tournament will be contested by 24 teams, having been expanded from the 16-team format used since 1996.
