BALAKA-(MaraviPost)-Several people Thursday paid tribute to the late Paul Kanyama, former Inspector General of Police who died on January 7 2020 at Daeyang Hospital in Lilongwe.
In their eulogies, Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi consoled the family on behalf of the President Peter Mutharika.
Dausi said the late Kanyama was a dedicated person who served the police service with passion.
“He was a dedicated police officer who served police to the rank of Inspector General, he had a glamorous career and was very professional,” Dausi said.
One of the family members, Austine Kanyama, a brother to the deceased, told The Daily Times that the death of Kanyama is a big loss to the family.
“He will be missed because he was the pillar of the family and the person we would go to if we needed help,” he said.
Some of notable faces at the funeral were Secretary to the Government Lloyd Muhara and Commissioner of Police George Kainja, who represented the Inspector General, former Inspectors General Oliver Kumbambe, Lot Dzonzi and Rodney Jose.
Kanyama was born in 1956 and hailed from Balaka,T/A Nsamala.
He rose to the position of IG in 2014, replacing Dzonzi. He resigned from his post in 2015, before his mandatory retirement due to health grounds. He is survived wife and seven children.
