President Peter Mutharika has appointed Lexten Kachama as Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service effective February 10.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.
Kachama was until February 10 deputy inspector general of police (administration).
Ironically, the position fell vacant after Parliament rejected to confirm former IG Paul Kanyama, who earlier on claimed to have resigned and retired from the Malawi Police Service on health grounds.
