Omar al-Bashir jailed two yrs for money laundering, corruption

KHARTOUM-(MaraviPost)-Following series of legal proceedings against al-Bashir, court in Sudan sentenced the former President to 2 years in prison for money laundering and corruption.

Al-Bashir has been in custody since April and charged earlier this year with money laundering, after millions of U.S. dollars, euros and Sudanese pounds were seized in his compound.

After months of nationwide protests, Sudan military stepped in and removed him from power and made power-sharing agreement with civilians.

The former president is also wanted by International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and genocide linked to the Darfur conflict in the 2000s.

He is also expected to be charged for the killing of protesters during anti-government demonstrations that took place months prior his forceful removal from power.
