Fuel crisis eases in Lilongwe

Abnormally long queues that had become a common sight at the Total Filling Station along the M1 Road in Lilongwe have now completely disappeared.

Motorists and commuters who had been enduring hours-long waits to refuel their vehicles can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Fuel is now readily available at the station, and customers are being served efficiently without delays.

A quick survey conducted by Maravi Post on Saturday, 31st May 2025, confirmed the welcome development.

The survey revealed that the fuel shortages which had rocked the country over the past couple of weeks appear to have eased significantly.

There were no visible queues, and vehicles were seen driving in and out of the station with ease.

The station attendants confirmed that fuel deliveries have resumed and supply has stabilized.

This improvement has brought much-needed relief to both private motorists and commercial drivers who had been hard-hit by the crisis.

Public transport operators, in particular, had expressed frustration over the impact of the shortages on their business operations.

During the height of the crisis, fuel scarcity had triggered panic buying and long lines stretching several meters.

The situation also caused a rise in black-market fuel prices and increased fares in public transportation.

Some drivers were forced to sleep in their vehicles overnight just to secure a chance to refuel.

Economic activities were beginning to slow down, with small businesses complaining about the high cost of transporting goods.

The easing of the fuel situation is, therefore, a positive development for both the local economy and daily life in the capital.

While the source of the earlier shortages has not been fully explained, government authorities have pledged to ensure consistent fuel supply moving forward.

Several filling stations in Lilongwe have also reported improved fuel availability and normal customer flow.

Authorities and fuel distributors are being commended for working around the clock to address the supply gaps.

Malawians are hopeful that this return to normalcy is not temporary but part of a sustained solution to the country’s recurring fuel crises.
