MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has demanded for resignation of Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) Executive Director Gerald Chiunda claiming that he has failed his responsibility.
This follows the cancelling of this years Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) exams which were in progress.
In a press release that we have seen, The HRDC said Chiunda should resign before students sit for another exams because people have lost trust in him as he has failed to lead and manage the exams.
Adding on this, HRDC has also demanded the government to re administer the exams as soon as possible as they have found the period to when the exams will be readministered to be too longof which might be too costly on both the government, private schools and parents.
Reads part of the letter; “The proposed timeframe in our view is considered too long await for the candidates.We do not find any merit of whatsoever for candidates to wait till March 2021, we demand that the examinations should be retaken any time soon”. It said.
Ministry of education in collaboration with MANEB on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 cancelled the MSCE exams following the leakage of all papers before writing them.
About 150,000 students sat for the cancelled MSCE exams.
