RUMPHI (Maravi Post)—Normal duties have been disturbed at Kaziwiziwi coal mine in Rumphi district as workers are boycotting their duties in demanding for salary increment from the company.The strike started on Sunday according to some of the workers.
The workers told this reporter that they will not stop with their strike until the company bow down to their demand.
“We have stop working and now is a three days. What we want is that the company should raise our salaries,” said the workers.
“Our salaries are outdated, things are expensive now this makes us difficult to save our families,” they added.
According to them, some of the employees are receiving K35 thousand as salary per month a development which is unacceptable.
Confirming the development, William Phiri who is one of the company’s officials said they are doing everything to make sure that thing comes back to normal.
The mine is one of the oldest in the country as it started in 1985 during Kamuzu Banda’s are.
