His friends raised an alarm which attracted the attention of the 40-year-old cop who rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the boy.

The officer, while attempting to rescue the boy, fell into the dam after slipping from its banks, Citizen Digital reported.

In December 2021, 33 individuals en-route to a wedding drowned when the bus they were traveling in veered off the road and fell into the flooded Enziu River.

The WHO also revealed that globally, at least 40 people drown every hour which places Kenya at position 19 out of 172 countries surveyed.
