NAIROBI-(MaraviPost)-Kenyan police officer, Daniel Kasina, has died after drowning into the Keiya earth dam in Endui village, Mwingi, Kitui County while rescuing a Secondary School student.
The Mwingi Central Deputy OCPD, Nicholas Mutuma, confirmed the incident in a statement.
According to Mutuma, the 15-year-old student from Mutuang’ombe Secondary School had gone to fetch water with his friends on Sunday when he decided to swim into the dam before drowning.

His friends raised an alarm which attracted the attention of the 40-year-old cop who rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the boy.
The officer, while attempting to rescue the boy, fell into the dam after slipping from its banks, Citizen Digital reported.
In December 2021, 33 individuals en-route to a wedding drowned when the bus they were traveling in veered off the road and fell into the flooded Enziu River.
The WHO also revealed that globally, at least 40 people drown every hour which places Kenya at position 19 out of 172 countries surveyed.
