Lands Ministry bites hard on encroachers

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Barley hours after the Lilongwe City Council (LCC) pounced on illegal developers in Area 43 and part of Area 10 on Saturday Area 3 is facing the wrath of the law.

Fences were illegally constructed and making it worse, they were sitting on the main pipes of Lilongwe Water Board (LWB).

This is dangerous to human life and blurs the good image of the capital city.

To deal with the malpractice or prevent the same, the Ministry of Lands has a fully fledged department of Physical Planning meant to ensure all developments are in concomitant with the law.

Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba has told scores of journalists during interviews that the Chakwera administration promotes the rule of law, adding that justice will apply to any illegal developer regardless of their status in society.

“No selective justice, we have laws that guide the land sector and lawlessness will not be tolerated.

“We expect Malawians to abide by the laws. The ministry has an open and transparent policy, the officers are available to offer any assistance to anyone,” he said.

According to the minister the Government wants to ensure that all Malawians align their construction and any land developments to the MW2063 Agenda.

Gumba warned that as minister responsible he will continue to authorise demolitions in order to ensure that the law is not applied selectively.

Within a space of two weeks the government has demolished numerous illegal structures and has advised land users to visit the Ministry of Lands offices to check if they have any doubts on the papers they hold for their parcels of land or any buildings they own.
