BLANTYRE (Maravipost)—The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will from April 6-11 2015 host a delegation from the Lesotho Independent Electoral Commission who will be on study tour.
The six-member delegation, led by their chairman, Chief Justice (Rtd), Hon Mahapela Lehohla, will be in Malawi to learn how civic education is being conducted and the roles by different stakeholders in the provision of civic education, according MEC Chief Elections Officer Wille Kalonga.
“The tour will give the members of the Lesotho IEC an inside look of how voter education is done in Malawi as well as the electoral processes which MEC follow,” said Kalonga.
The Lesotho delegation will meet with MEC officials who will brief them on various voter education strategies that were used during the 2014 Tripartite Elections and later visit selected accredited Civil Society Organizations that took part in civic and voter education exercise during the 2014 Tripartite Elections.
“At the end of their tour, the members shall have a field visit to one of the constituencies within the country for a lesson learning and experience drawing on how civic and voter education is done,” he said.
This will be the second time after the May 2014 Tripartite Elections that MEC is hosting visitors from other Electoral Management Bodies.
In June 2014, the Commission also hosted a delegation from Uganda on a study tour with special focus on voter education as well.
