BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Two brilliant goals from Wongani Lungu powered FCB Nyasa Big Bullets into the final of the Castel Cup following a hard fought semi final victory over Mzuzu City Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The much anticipated clash brought together two sides with recent history in the competition, as Bullets hosted Hammers in a repeat of last season’s semi final where the Mzuzu outfit stunned the People’s Team.
Bullets stepped onto the pitch carrying memories of that painful 2024 defeat, determined to set the record straight, while Mzuzu City Hammers arrived with confidence and belief that they could once again frustrate the Blantyre giants.
From the opening whistle both teams displayed high quality football, exchanging attacks and showing tactical discipline that kept the packed Kamuzu Stadium crowd fully engaged throughout the contest.
The first half was evenly balanced with clear chances hard to come by as both defenses held firm, forcing the referee to add four minutes of stoppage time at the end of the opening 45 minutes.
It was during those added minutes that Wongani Lungu made the difference, calmly finishing off a well weighted pass from Yamikani Mologeni in the second minute of stoppage time to give Bullets a crucial 1–0 lead at the break.
The second half saw Bullets grow in confidence, controlling possession and dictating the tempo as Hammers searched for an equalizer to keep their cup dream alive.
On the 72nd minute, Lungu struck again, punishing his former club with a composed finish to double Bullets’ advantage and effectively seal the contest at 2–0.
The brace against his old team capped a memorable afternoon for Lungu, who was later deservedly named Man of the Match for his match winning performance.
Speaking after the game, Bullets Caretaker coachGilbert Chirwa expressed delight with the victory, saying the team was pleased to overcome a difficult opponent and would now focus on full preparations for the final against Goshen City Dedza Dynamos.
On the other side, Mzuzu City Hammers
Caretaker coach Luzurus Nyemela admitted defeat, acknowledging that it was not their day, but praised his players for reaching the semi-final after eliminating strong sides such as Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers.
According to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), the Castel Cup final is scheduled to take place on 15 February 206 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, where FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will battle Goshen City Dedza Dynamos for the prestigious trophy.
