Lunzu Police Officer discharged in rape case

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-Chief Resident Magistrate for south, Paul Chiotcha,on Monday discharged Victor Kachingwe, a 34-year-old police officer, who was accused of raping a woman held on remand at Lunzu Police Unit in Blantyre.

In his oral ruling, Magistrate Chiotcha said:”This is a suitable case for the State to withdraw under Section 81(a) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Code Act if they believe further prosecution is unwarranted.”

On his part,Kachingwe’s lawyer, Bentry Nyondo, praised the decision, stating that the prosecution was unlikely to succeed and would have wasted state resources.

Kachingwe, a detective sergeant at Lunzu Police Unit under Chileka Police Station in the commercial city, hails from Ken village in the area of Traditional Authority(T/A) Kapeni in Blantyre.
