GENEVA-(MaraviPost)-Global Fund has recognised Malawi’s Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda that has invited him to Geneva as one of the panelists for a Global Event.
In an email The Maravi Post has seen, Chithyola is expected to be in Geneva for Global Fund Event on May 28, 2024.
This is the World Health Assembly side event, Malawi Finance has been solely invited.
“Dear Honorable Minister, the Global Fund would like to invite you to participate in a panel discussion during an event we will be co-hosting together with the African Union Commission, AUDA-NEPAD, the East African Community, the Southern African Development Commission, the Global Financing Facility, PEPFAR and ODI titled “Charting the Future of Financial Sustainability in Health: a conversation with African countries”. This event will bring together Ministers of Health, Ministers of Finance, policymakers, and development partners to discuss the financial sustainability of the health sector and better alignment between development partners and ministries of health and finance in African countries.
“The event will take place on Tuesday 28 May from 11:30 to 14:30 at the InterContinental Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland. Further details on the agenda will be shared. with you closer to the date. Your participation as a panelist would be instrumental to the success of the event,” reads the email in part dated May 1, 2024.
The email adds, “The Global Fund has the pleasure of hosting you and will cover your travel, meal, accommodation, and visa costs for four days while in Geneva.
“We look forward to collaborating with you. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration”, invites Dr Kalipso Chalkidou, Global Fund’s Head, Health Finance Department.
In his reaction, Chithyola said, “This shows that donors have confidence in President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government. This will encourage us to do more in fiscal discipline when donor monies are in our hands”.
