Malawi police arrest Ahmed Mohammed Chunara over MK5bn cement-gate case

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Lilongwe on Monday, March 28, 2022 arrested Ahmed Mohammed Chunara in connection with the ongoing MK5 billion cement-gate case.

Impeccable sources at both National Police headquarters and office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) have confirmed Chunara arrested to Nation Online.

Chunara becomes the fifth suspect to be arrested in connection with the case.Others are businessperson Mahmed Chunara, former president Peter Mutharika’s bodyguard Norman Chisale, former director of State residences Peter Mukhito and Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) deputy commissioner general Roza Mbilizi.

The arrest comes a day before the suspects are expected to appear in court for plea taking.

The five are accused of abusing former president Peter Mutharika’s Tax Payer Identification Number (TPIN) to import cement worth MK5 billion duty-free.
