BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has justified of not putting on face mask as a Covid-19 preventative measure in recent foreign trip particularly Tanzania
President Chakwera said that he did not put on a face mask in solidarity with his Tanzanian counterpart John Pombe Magufuli who for several months now has publicly declared that his country is free of the pandemic.
In his 12th weekly radio address on Saturday, October 10, 2020 Chakwela said was also assured of the negative status of his delegation and that of the hosting delegation
The Malawi leader added that apart from the assurance there was other preventative protocols like social distance through out the trip
He added that he had undergone testing before the trip to Tanzania.
On his arrival from the trip some quarters criticize the president from failing to lead by example of sticking to the locally gazatted Covid-19 precautionary measures in a foreign land.
Some health experts even demanded Chakwera to be quarantined upon arrival from Tanzania trip.
As of October 10, 2020, Malawi had 5821 Covid-19 cases with 180 deaths.
